All data is stored locally on your iPhone in a private SQLite database inside the app's sandbox. Nothing is sent to any external server. There is no account and nothing to log in to.
Your data is tied to the app's local storage. Deleting the app removes all data permanently. We recommend exporting your settlement statements before uninstalling if you want a record.
Yes — the app is fully functional offline. Currency exchange rates are fetched when you have a connection and cached on device. Built-in fallback rates are used when you're offline.
When you add an expense, you select which travelers participated. The cost is divided equally among them. For meal expenses, you can mark vegetarian attendees to apply a discount before splitting, so meat-eaters don't subsidise the veggie option.
MeAndBuddies uses a banker model. The person who paid the highest net amount becomes the "banker." Every other traveler settles directly with that one person, minimising the total number of transactions needed to balance the group.
All major world currencies are supported via live rates from exchangerate-api.com. Expenses are stored internally in USD. The original currency and rate are preserved alongside each entry.
No. MeAndBuddies is for the trip organiser. One person manages everything and shares summaries — settlement statements, itinerary details — with the rest of the group. No one else needs to install the app.
